Apple will no longer accept cash for the iPhone. They have also limited the sales to 2 per person in a move to stop the reselling of the mobile phone.
Apple spokeswoman Natalie Kerris said “Customer response to the iPhone has been off the charts, and limiting iPhone sales to two per customer helps us ensure that there are enough iPhones for people who are shopping for themselves or buying a gift, We’re requiring a credit or debit card for payment to discourage unauthorized resellers.”
Apple thinks some people already have purchased multiple iPhones to resell, including those looking to modify, or “unlock,” the phones so they work on networks other than Apple’s carrier partner in the United States, AT&T Inc.
Apple estimates that buyers of 250,000 of the iPhones sold so far intended to unlock them, Apple’s chief operating officer Tim Cook said in a conference call with analysts last week.
According to the telegraph only 1% of brits want an iPhone.
a Yougov survey showed only 1% of those surveyed by the online pollsters said they would snap up an iPhone.
Although touted as one of the year’s must-have gadgets, Apple has a significant task ahead of it to convince consumers to pay for the handset and take on a contract of at least 18 months, YouGov found.
Marek Vaygelt, head of technology and telecoms consulting at YouGov, said: “This research conducted prior to any great marketing spend by Apple and its partners shows that there is demand for a phone of this type but consumers are used to subsidised handsets in the UK, more so than in the USA.
“The challenge for Apple, O2 and Carphone Warehouse is to convince customers to make a significantly higher outlay for the iPhone than they have been used to historically.”
The iPhone is due to go on sale in the UK on November 9, users will have to sign an 18 month contract with O2, the exclusive network provider. The company hopes to sell 10m units across the globe next year, after recently reporting that it has sold more than 1m in the US since its launch at the end of June, comfortably beating its original end of September target.

CEO Steve Jobs says platform SDK will launch next February
Developers will soon be able to create applications for Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch, CEO Steve Jobs announced today.
“Let me just say it: We want native third party applications on the iPhone, and we plan to have an SDK in developers’ hands in February. We are excited about creating a vibrant third party developer community around the iPhone and enabling hundreds of new applications for our users. With our revolutionary multi-touch interface, powerful hardware and advanced software architecture, we believe we have created the best mobile platform ever for developers.
It will take until February to release an SDK because we’re trying to do two diametrically opposed things at once—provide an advanced and open platform to developers while at the same time protect iPhone users from viruses, malware, privacy attacks, etc. This is no easy task. Some claim that viruses and malware are not a problem on mobile phones—this is simply not true. There have been serious viruses on other mobile phones already, including some that silently spread from phone to phone over the cell network. As our phones become more powerful, these malicious programs will become more dangerous. And since the iPhone is the most advanced phone ever, it will be a highly visible target.
P.S.: The SDK will also allow developers to create applications for iPod touch.”
No not Steve Jobs but the scientists who discovered the technology now used in all ipods.
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences on Tuesday honored two scientists whose discovery revolutionized digital data storage, awarding the 2007 Nobel Prize in physics for work that allows millions to sway to music on their iPods and to store a lifetime’s photographs on palm-size devices.
Peter Gruenberg of Germany and Albert Fert of France were recognized for their independent discovery of giant magnetoresistance - an exotic phenomenon whose practical applications became ubiquitous in everyday life in less than two decades.
Among the results: The palm-size external hard drive that can hold a good chunk of your local library. The iPod that allows you to carry a thousand songs in your pocket. The computing revolution that allows your laptop to hold more information than a 19th-century warehouse.
