Hundreds of gadget fans have been queing outside stores for the new Apple iPhone which was released today.
Out side the New York Apple store there was over 200 hundred people waiting 12 hours in advance. The iPhone which retails from $499, some are expected to turn up on ebay while others will be snatched up by adoring gadget fans.
Apple and AT&T have announced the service plans for the iPhone.
The charges consist of 3 different monthly price plans at $60, $80 and $100. All three plans include 200 text messages, unlimited data service and minutes that roll over month to month but with 450, 900 and 1,350 voice minutes respectively. The iPhone itself will also require a $36 activation fee.
“We want to make choosing a service plan simple and easy, so every plan includes unlimited data with direct Internet access, along with Visual Voicemail and a host of other goodies,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “We think these three plans give customers the flexibility to experience all of iPhone’s revolutionary features at affordable and competitive prices.”

Apple today announced that iPhone users will be able to enjoy YouTube’s originally-created content on their iPhones when they begin shipping on June 29. A new Apple-designed application on iPhone will wirelessly stream YouTube’s content to iPhone over Wi-Fi or EDGE networks and play it on iPhone’s stunning 3.5 inch display.
In addition, Apple announced that YouTube is now live on Apple TV™. Users can download the free software update using Apple TV’s built-in software update feature, and then easily navigate through YouTube’s familiar video browsing categories or search for specific videos. YouTube members can also log-in to their YouTube accounts on Apple TV to view and save their favorite videos.
“iPhone delivers the best YouTube mobile experience by far,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Now users can enjoy YouTube wherever they are—on their iPhone, on their Mac or on a widescreen TV in their living room with Apple TV.”
iSkin have launched a new iPod case for the video iPod.
The “Claro” is the latest breakthrough member to the iSkin family of iPod protectors. Apple said on Monday that the iPhone will have a longer battery life than expected.
Apple said the iPhone would provide up to eight hours of talk time, or six hours of Internet use, compared to the launch in January when it was stated it would have up to 5 hours talk time.
The touch screen surface has also been updated to glass rather than plastic to make it more resistant to scratches.
In other iPhone Accessories news Speck has announced a new range of iPhone cases available in June.
It has been revealed in an interview with Apple Europe frontman Pascal Cagni that the iPhone will only be available on contract in Europe.
In an interview translated on Apple Insider it was revealed that “Yes, I can confirm that it has been decided that it will only be
offered by subscription”.
The iPhone will be released in Europe at the end of 2007. The surge in iPhone accessories keeps on coming as Griffin announced it hopes to release a selection of cases and screen protectors on the launch day of the 29th.
Marks and Spencer will soon be stocking a suit designed to work with the iPod Video and iPod Nano.
The suit will be made from specially-designed Elektex fabric which turns the inner lapel into a five button control centre for their iPod. This is another product to be added to the ever growing iPod Accessories list, the suit will sell for a total of £140, with the jacket costing £90 and the matching trousers for £50.
Apple has confirmed that the iPhone will be released on June 29th.
The confirmation came during a series of ads during the US show “60 Minutes”. The ads showed users demonstrating the iPhones features. The ads can be viewed on the Apple site here.
Excitement has been brewing over the release of the iPhone since it was introduced in january.
With the release of the iPhone, the rush to get iPhone Accessories produced has reached boiling point, with manufactuers Griffin, Marware, Macally, Ezgear and Belkin producing iPhone cases as quickly as possible.
