Gear4 free party in clapham

Filed under: General News — James @ 7:27 am

High Wycombe, UK, July 28, 2006 – GEAR4, UK based provider of digital accessories, today announced that they will be presenting the ‘GEAR4 Bedford Bandstand’, an afternoon of new music on Clapham Common, South London this summer.

The Bandstand, which was originally built in 1890, is the oldest of its kind in London and even Europe, and through the efforts of Lambeth Council and the Friends of Clapham Common association, the bandstand has undergone a £1m renovation, restoring it to its former glory.

Bandstands have always been about music in the community, however over the years this emphasis on getting together to enjoy music has been lost. With the restoration of a landmark such as the Claphmam Common Bandstand, this may well be the comeback for afternoons in the park listening to music.

To mark the occasion and kick start the music, GEAR4 are proudly presenting the ‘GEAR4 Bedford Bandstand’ in conjunction with the Bedford Arms, one of London’s leading new music venues. The event will take place on Saturday August 5th from 1pm until 7pm, with up and coming acts such as Haley Glennie Smith and Lee Rogers, playing throughout the afternoon.

Tom Dudderidge, managing director of Disruptive Technology Channels, commented: “At GEAR4 we are committed to new music and supporting emerging artists. Having sponsored the New Music programme at Bestival on the Isle of Wight in last year, we wanted to continue this support and launched GEAR4 New Music Sessions to do this. The Bedford Bandstand promises to be a fun day out for the whole family as well as an opportunity to hear some great bands playing live”

GEAR4 hope to give you a chilled out afternoon in the sun, listening to the coolest up and coming bands at one of London’s oldest music venues. It would be great to see you there!

Apple file Patent for iPod touch-screen

Filed under: General News — James @ 5:45 pm

Apple has filed a patent application that has been made public detailing a touch-screen interface for an iPod or similar device. Looking at the pictures this must be the clearest sign that a touch screen iPod video is due to be released at some point.

The patent filing, which is titled “Proximity detector in handheld device,” describes and illustrates how the interface would allow users to navigate menus and make selections by moving their finger on the screen. The touch-screen interface would sense when a user’s finger approached and would automatically display a virtual scroll wheel or other interface elements. AppleInsider has a large portion of the patent’s visual diagrams and verbatim descriptions. Apple’s long-rumored “true” video iPod is said to employ a 3.5-inch touch-screen display. The patent can be viewed at the USPTO site with full abstract and images.
