Apple has denied claims that is has cleared the Foxconn’s iPod factory based in Longhua China.

A Chinese website reported last week that the plant had received a clean bill of health after Apple’s audit. The Mail on Sunday reported a few weeks ago that the Foxconn factory had appalling working conditions with 200,000 staff working upto 15 hours a day and sleeping in rooms with 100 people in. This prompted Apple to carry out an inspection at the plant below are current comments from Apple.

‘We are still investigating the working conditions at Foxconn’s manufacturing plant in Longhua,’ Apple spokesman Steve Dowling told BusinessWeek. ‘This is a thorough audit, which includes employee working and living conditions, interviews of employees and managers, compliance with overtime and wage regulations, and other areas as necessary to insure adherence to Apple’s supplier code of conduct. Apple’s supplier code of conduct sets the bar higher than accepted industry standards and we take allegations of noncompliance very seriously.’

Foxconn has denied the Mail on Sunday allegations.
